The Persuader

Killing as many commies as he can is the goal of a hatred consumed private in the Israeli Army. The memory of his torture in a Russian mental hospital has driven him to revenge. Persuading his friends and lovers to join him in his quest, he sets out on a mission of blood and vengeance. Sigourney Weaver stars as the brave woman who must love and trust a madman.

Menahem Golan directs this warmhearted comedy. A wily widower that deals in used furniture fights progress (and city hall). His home slated to be bulldozed, his business in trouble and his daughter poised to leave the nest with her wealthy fiancé, small-time Tel Aviv junk dealer Lupo (Yehuda Barkan) still finds the courage to keep his life, and his pride, intact.

A film produced by the Hasbarah Center in collaboration with Mekorot, Israel’s national water company. Two million work days, of engineers, contractors and of course laborers, allowed the completion of the first part of Israel’s National Water Carrier, an ambitious aquaduct carrying water from the sea of Galilee to population centers and arid regions. The film outlines challenges that faces the builders of the aqueduct: the paving of canals, the creation of a dramatic siphon, allowing the water to cross the Canyon of Nahal Ammoud, the creation of a reservoir at Nahal Tzalmon, etc.
