Whitewash

Multiple choice is a movie that puts its center three big events in Turkey’s history such as 1938 Dersim Event, 27 May Coup, Madımak Massacre. The film, centered on these three events (certainly not facts), compares the answers to four young people from four different ideologies born in 1994 and beyond, asking the same questions. Four people from the four main political movements, the left: the socialist fraction, the center-left: social democracy and social liberalism, and the Kemalism bound to them, the center-right: the conservative liberal tradition and the right: from the Turkish-nationalist movement who have not experienced or have not witnessed the events because of their ages, give their manipulated, secondhand informations and responses to make us see their capibility of understanding.

The little girl who is waiting for good news from her pregnant mother who is taken to city for birth and new born baby sister with her grandparents and the neighbours that came to their home, learns that she has to cauterize her own foot for her new born baby sister's health. The feeling of guilt and responsibility that she feels make her start to trying cauterize her own foot. After the lots of tense, fearful moments she gets caught by her grandmother before she managed it. End of the day she gets good news from her sister and mother but she continues sleeping instead of giving this important news to her grandparents.

The film, grounded in the photo series titled "Right to be Flawed"—published on a-part.online, the official publishing platform of the Kadıköy-based aesthetic-modernist art collective apart Art Association—is a short videographic essay that aims, through a practice-based experiment, to test French thinker-sociologist Jean Baudrillard’s theory of simulation, the imperfection–perfection dichotomy within that theory, and the implications of this dichotomy in the context of art and image regimes.
