Years of Macau

"Years of Macau" is an anthology film consisting of nine short films set in different years and locations in Macau. They include "Go Back Home", "REC-Last Days", "Sparkling Mind", "The Last Show", "Till the End of World", "The First Cigarette", "A Moment", "Dirty Laundry" and "Summer". All nine directors are from Macau, most of whom were born and raised here. The stories of each film share what the directors feel about Macau using the language of cinema to convey their love for the city.

I Blew Out the Candles Before Making a Wish

Young Jojo suddenly comes into a stack of casino chips worth a million and decides to pay off her runaway father’s debt, asking the down-on-his-luck debt collector Hua to gamble on her behalf. In Macau’s chaotic casinos, they form an unlikely alliance, navigating wins, losses, and life’s challenges together. When the final bet arrives, fate cruelly tests them, stripping them of everything, yet revealing the true gift life has been offering. I Blew Out the Candle Before Making a Wish explores money, family, and responsibility, capturing the shadows and resilience of human nature.

No One Home

Ah-Fu, burdened with overwhelming debt, moves into a container home deep in the woods with his nine-year-old son, Wei-Wei. Together with his girlfriend Jing-Wen and her seven-year-old daughter Huan-Huan, this makeshift, struggling family does their best to get through each day. Though life is poor, these small, fleeting moments gradually gather into a warm current of memories in the child’s heart. Years later, the container home they once lived in appears in the news. Wei-Wei is drawn back to those memories—Ah-Fu’s disappearance, Jing-Wen leaving without a word, a rusted biscuit tin, and a set of unclaimed human remains.

Goddess

Soft, an escaped undocumented worker, clutches a woman's ID card in his hand. This woman is the goddess of his best friend, Chai, who yearns to meet her. To fulfill Chai's desire, Soft embarks on a journey, heading toward the location indicated on the ID card.

The Wrong Trousers

Wallace rents out Gromit's former bedroom to a penguin, who takes up an interest in the techno trousers created by Wallace. However, Gromit later learns that the penguin is a wanted criminal.

A Close Shave

Wallace's whirlwind romance with the proprietor of the local wool shop puts his head in a spin, and Gromit is framed for sheep-rustling in a fiendish criminal plot.

Mater the tow truck travels from country to country as he retells his infamous but unbelievable stories.
