Strange – Art is a version of the audiovisual play Strange, the story of The Stranger, an androgynous (or what?) character who travels from the Finnish landscape to one Europe capital encountering a series of uncanny events. A bizarre journey in the art world, Strange – Art is a window open to the absurdity of the current state of the world.

Somewhere deep in the woods, in the house of her youth, she is thinking of ending things. All that matters is that she saved herself, and that nothing in her remains of them. The IFFR debut by Finnish conceptual artist Mox Mäkelä is an intuitive stream of thoughts, pictures and feelings expressing the protagonist's deep pain at the mistreatment of our planet. Fascinating, unnerving, funny and unlike anything you've seen before.

In René Clair’s classic 1924 short Entr’acte, Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray played a surreal game of chess until they were swept away by a jet of water. As 2024’s 100th anniversary of surrealism still lingers in the cultural air, it’s a good moment to drop in on renowned Finnish artist Mox Mäkelä as she engages the scientific researcher Mikael Fortelius in an even more bizarre and extended chess game – using teeth as the board pieces.
