Animals in War is a poignant anthology film inspired by true stories of animals impacted by the war in Ukraine. A collaboration between Ukrainian and international artists — including actor and activist Sean Penn — the film is a haunting yet captivating call for global awareness and empathy.

Despite the war, school life continues in Ukraine, with pupils and teachers striving to continue learning even under constant threat. The film is a mosaic of the everyday lives of teachers and students from different corners of Ukraine.

At a bus stop, provincial taxi driver Yura meets young beauty Svieta, and is hired to drive both her and her mother to Pryputni - a small Ukrainian village in the middle of nowhere. Seduced by a promised payment and Svieta's short skirt, Yura doesn't have a clue, that his visit to Pryputni is going to last a little longer than he expects.

What stands behind the Black Square, painted in 1915 by the obsessive artist Kazymyr Malevych? For his competitors, a fraud, for the Soviet regime, a secret code, for one woman, a love letter, for the people of Ukraine – a prophecy…

The film is a story of love, but also the consequences of revealing cultural and social prejudices. The main protagonist tries to show to a couple of observers the variety of interpersonal relationships. Their attitude, to start with – mocking, gradually becomes reflective. The title of the work alludes to Ian Dury’s cult song Sex&Drugs & Rock&Roll. The artist draws attention to the different possible meanings of the word ‘drugs’– a means of intoxication but also a curative treatment.

Filmed during one night in July 2025 by forty filmmakers and hundreds of citizens, The Illusion of a Quiet Night paints a vast collective portrait of war-torn Ukraine. Between fear and exhaustion, moments of joy and scenes of the ordinary day to day, we watch as life goes on in spite of everything, witnessing the resilience of a nation gripped by uncertainty.

Two young Ukrainian volunteers are captured by the Reds during the Soviet-Ukrainian war, exploring themes of loyalty and moral ambiguity amidst the backdrop of early twentieth-century Ukraine.

At noon, in the shade of riverside trees — as if in the middle of life — you lose something. Yet love is as strong as the river. A man is going through abrupt changes in his life — both personal and caused by the war. He spends a day alone by the river, revisiting a forgotten hobby — fishing. A sense of love and acceptance fills him, but only for a brief moment — he must return to the war.
