The Man Who Made a Movie

The first comprehensive dramatic telling of the Palestinian Nakba, seen through the eyes of a poor rural family from the 1930s British Mandate era through the massacres of 1948 and the defeat of 1967. Written by Palestinian poet Walid Seif — based on his own family history — and directed by the late Syrian master Hatem Ali, this is widely considered one of the greatest Arab television dramas ever produced. A monumental work of collective memory, historical witness and human endurance.

Story revolves around a love story between a soldier at a checkpoint and a girl living next door, who face political differences and the problems of war. The events and personalities of the film also monitor stories from the contemporary Syrian scene that bear the smallest details, as the film deals with the daily and daily reality in Syria.

The film carries within it a dose of love, hope and optimism, in addition to the human relationships that connect the inhabitants of the old city with each other. I believe that relationships based on love are one of the reasons for the continuation of this city until now. The film is based on the concept of the word “love”, not love between a young man and a young woman, but rather love for things, people, place, profession and work.

The series revolves around politics and corruption in 1980s Syria. An aspiring university student is forced to become a police officer and climb the political ladder, revealing bitter truths along the way.

The work deals with a stage in the history of Syrian society between 1915 to 1926, which is the time of the Ottomans' exit from Damascus and the French occupation of Syria, and presents the conditions of Syrian society at that time until the Great Syrian Revolution
