For young black gay men, navigating the world can be a disturbing experience. ‘Being black and gay means being two steps behind in life’ as explained by Guilliano, the founding father of vogue dance community The Kiki House of Angels. In this narrative collage film Guilliano and his friends share personal experiences of homophobia, racism and marginalization in everyday life. Voguing provides a temporary escape from the outside world as well as a sense of community.

At just 15 years old, Lavanya performs as DJ Kendis at major festivals in Belgium and the Netherlands, even though an accident has left her in constant pain.

How do you learn to be a man without a father figure to guide you? Mich, Jay and Ruwhel are three devoted dads from Rotterdam. Growing up without their fathers, the three men had to figure things out on their own from a very early age. Now raising their own children they do everything they can to break the generational spiral. For visual artist Mounira Al Solh, born in Lebanon and based in the Netherlands, making art is her lifeline: a way to ‘resist the feeling that we are doomed.’ Remarkably, this does not result in somber work. Dancing on the Ruins shows how Al Solh fearlessly builds a multifaceted and playfully activist body of work. Through textiles, ceramics, installations, video and paintings, the artist creates a colorful universe in which she blends personal stories with ancient myths and musical traditions. Her passion is fueled by a deep sense of urgency to offer optimism in a world full of injustice.

For a long time, these commandments guided our thoughts and actions, but how do people relate to these rules, to each other, and to today's complex society? Ten filmmakers of varying ages, backgrounds, and experience have explored the deeper meaning of these ancient rules. In the documentaries, they are contrasted with today's multicultural, globalized, and secularized world. A series of ten highly diverse documentaries, each addressing one commandment in its own unique way. The films explore contemporary themes such as identity, friendship, addiction, postcolonialism, morality, and the human impact on nature.
