Amahuaca siempre

Pibia Awin is one of five Iskobakebo (Isconahua) elders who were uprooted from their village and now live in the Callería River basin in Peru. They are the last surviving Iskobakebo, a people who lived deep in the forest, in isolation. An unexpected visit suggests that their relatives are in the Brazilian Amazon, and thus the hope of reunion is born. This documentary brings us closer to the world of the Indigenous people living in voluntary isolation on the Peru-Brazil border and the serious threats they face, such as the Pucallpa-Cruzeiro do Sul highway, illegal logging, drug trafficking, and territorial conflicts that put their existence in constant danger.

The people of Chicherta, a small Achuar community in the Peruvian Amazon, want to protect their secret sanctuary from the arrival of oil companies that have been granted concessions for this sacred place and much of their territory. Elder Irar leads his grandson Chumpi and a group from the community on an expedition across the rivers and through the most pristine forests of the jungle to reveal to the world—for the first time—the existence of their sanctuary.

The documentary captures the reaction of the Shipibo people after seeing the images filmed by anthropologist Harry Tschopik Jr. in 1953; it is a reunion with their relatives and the customs of almost 6 decades ago, it is a film that captures their most heartfelt impressions about the inevitable changes and the future of the Shipibo people.
