What a Carry On!

Anthony Newley stars as an actor who walks off the set of a banal sit-com and into a fantasy world of his own imagination in this surreal odyssey through one man's personal alternative reality.

Relaxed Irish crooner Val Doonican sits in a rocking chair, wearing cardigans or jumpers, and playing the guitar, performing easy listening and country material – and often comedic Irish songs. Comedy newcomer Dave Allen was a frequent regular in 1965-66. Guests included Lulu, Marianne Faithfull, Lonnie Donegan, Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Adam Faith, Sandie Shaw, Julie Felix, The Bachelors, Kathy Kirby, Cilla Black, The Alan Price Set, Frank Ifield, Rolf Harris, The Beverley Sisters, Nana Mouskouri, David Nixon, Les Dawson, Arthur Askey, Roy Castle, Norman Vaughan, Derek Nimmo, Des O’Connor, Kenneth McKellar, Sheila Hancock, Ray Alan, and Matt Monro.

The second of the four Carry On Christmas specials, this one loosely recounts the story of Treasure Island with Sid James as Long John Silver and Barbara Windsor, strangely, as Jim Hawkins. This special was filmed in black and white due to a technicians strike in the UK at the time of filming.

Two in Clover is a British sitcom produced by Thames Television for two series from 1969 to 1970 on ITV. It starred Sid James and Victor Spinetti and was written by Vince Powell and Harry Driver, and produced and directed by Alan Tarrant. The first series was made in black and white and the second series was made in colour. Frustrated office workers Sid Turner and Vic Evans decide to leave behind their nine-to-five lifestyle for the simpler life of living in the countryside and running a farm.

An offbeat revue of quickfire sketches in the 'Cribbins style', this fast-moving mixture of comedy and song (including chart hits Hole in the Ground, Gossip Calypso, and Right Said Fred) featured a gallery of outrageous characters in a myriad of seemingly inexhaustible situations! Bank clerk, burglar, tramp, librarian, cowboy and even spaceman – Cribbins is all these, and many more!

An anthology of half-hour stories, mostly historical romps and satires of pop culture, some feature recurring characters; based on the blockbuster Carry On films, the series was an attempt to address the films' declining cinema attendance by transferring the franchise to television. Many original cast members were featured in the series.
