Prospects of Ireland

In 1905, on a rescue mission to the North Pole to retrieve an old friend and his lost expedition crew, Captain Mortimer gets more than he bargained for when his ship is frozen into the ice sheet and set upon by bloodthirsty fish-creatures. Mortimer and his surviving crew flee the ship, beginning a treacherous journey to find safety in a frozen desolate wilderness. Suffering from starvation, frostbite and a slow madness, they find shelter inside a snowy mountain, but are they as safe as they think, or have they entered the heart of the creatures lair?

This film shows the operating procedures necessary for protection on a double track in the event of a mishap affecting the opposite line. We see the safety measures to be taken by station staff in such an emergency, and then how normal working is resumed.

Introducing the new electric services between the West Midlands, Stoke, London and the North-West. A service which started 6th March 1967 which is second to none in this country, and indeed of its type, second to none in the world. Bringing with it a number of new facilities for the passengers together with speed, frequency and electric reliability. Moving travellers across the country at 100 miles an hour much of the time.

The electrification of the London Midland Region main line between London, Manchester and Liverpool at 25KV AC, using overhead wires and drawing supply from the National Grid, was a major undertaking involving civil, electrical, mechanical and signal engineering of a complex and advanced nature. This film depicts some aspects of the problems involved and of the unprecedented operations which were carried out.

Captures the work of the British Rail Parcel Service, illustrating the story of five different consignments over a twenty-four hour period. These are: a schoolboy in Cheshire being sent a new bicycle; a housewife in Rhondda Valley awaiting the arrival of a new vacuum cleaner; a man in Lincoln expecting an insurance cheque; a tourist in Cornwall waiting for his daily newspaper to arrive at his hotel; and a research scientist who urgently needs some equipment in Manchester.
