Told through the fragmented memories of a newborn, Birth of the Hive Queen follows Amina, a trans sex worker who experiences a surreal and transformative conception leading to the emergence of new life. Blending body horror, myth, and speculative science fiction, the film reimagines reproduction and ancestry beyond medical and societal boundaries. Surrounded by live insects and dreamlike imagery, Amina becomes both mother and myth, embodying a radical vision of trans creation, autonomy, and care systems built outside traditional frameworks.

A zero-budget experimental animation exploring the psychosomatic experience of “walking while trans”, in reference to the stop and frisk law that was repealed from New York City’s legislature in 2021. [Overview courtesy of Tempest Creation]
