The Beautiful Lie

Herbert Grayson has timber holdings in a Southern state. One of his mills is burned, and he accuses Len Mathis, a young mountaineer. In trying to avoid arrest Len is killed, and old John Mathis, his father, swears to shoot Grayson or any member of his family on sight. His young daughter, Renie, makes the same vow. Grayson is anxious to gain control of lands owned by Mathis, Grayson's nephew, Eric Southard, volunteers to effect the purchase.

A rich libertine leaves all his money to a college girl who had refused his advances. The ensuing scandal makes her retire to a small town, where she meets the dead man's son.

Laddie Ferguson arrives from overseas and gets work in a lumber camp in Nova Scotia. He becomes a rival with Ed Spencer for the hand of Mary, the foreman's daughter. Laddie calls upon the Cape Breton Highlanders, camped nearby, for assistance and they go to the camp and break up the strike, which clears the way for a happy future for Mary and Laddie.

A small town man takes a mail-order detective course. When a Black friend is murdered, he goes undercover in black-face to investigate at a notorious, knife-wielding bootlegger's roadhouse. Originally a 5-reel feature (50min), now only 2 reel edit exists.

Helena confesses to the minister about her actual relationship with Pryor, and Dr. Lavendar forces her to give up her son. Helena agrees, certain that she is an unfit mother. Helena pleads her case and fights for her maternal rights.
