In the early 1200s, Dogen brought Chinese Zen philosophy to Japan, and established the Japanese Zen school of Buddhism. He taught that a person was capable of realizing Buddhahood within himself, by way of Zazen. Zazen is extended hours of sitting and meditating to achieve a state of “Mu” (nothingness, or empty existence).

16 year-old girl named Aya is infatuated with the proletarian politics of working-class rebel, Miyata. Her sister Sono believes the boy is not a good influence and she allows her ‘Master’ (a powerful Judge with whom she is a mistress) to arranged for the authorities to kill Miyata. After the boy’s death, Aya tries to take revenge against the Master but gets arrested for attempted murder. Due to the Master’s influence, Aya is sentenced to house arrest… at the Master’s home (!). She is soon raped and introduced to bondage and extreme sexual abuse.

To make matters worse, the female guard is a lesbian. Then, a virgin woman whom her brother had saved arrives in the communal cell, now a depraved prostitute. When Naomi learns that her brother was killed by a gang leader, she seeks revenge upon her parole...

The fear of rape suddenly befalls women who live peacefully in Shinjuku, as the perspective of the film alternates between the point of view of a rapist who calls himself a "shark" and the women who are raped.
