The Census

A grotesque fairy tale of fantasies in a 21-year old's mind. First he confesses to a priest about killing his aunt. Then he is sending parcels from the post office. Just when it appears that he is going to be arrested, the aunt appears alive and well from her trip. This time though, he decides to go for it...

The protagonist of the film is Tomasz Machciński, a man with a hundred faces, or rather with one face, but one that is both a material and a work of art. Machciński photographs himself disguised as famous people.

The portrait of Czesław Paczkowski, a man of unbreakable character, righteous attitude combining harmonious moral ideals with practical activity. For the last 35 years Paczkowski has been spending all his holiday leaves in Warsaw on the reconstruction and building of the capital city, in accordance with the scout pledge made in 1945 near the dead body of a fallen scout.

The film reveals a number of the Amway corporation’s secrets (including obvious violations of Polish law). To prevent these seeing the light of day, Amway obtained a court ban on the film, preventing its release. Director Henryk Dederko and producer Jacek Gwizdała were sued by Amway several times on various counts. This was the first case of preventive censorship in the history of Polish cinema after 1989. The defendants were cleared of disseminating untrue information. This acquittal did not enable the ban on the film to be revoked; the court ban on its release remained in force for 12 years.

Addresses the problem of sexual awareness of children. It draws attention to erroneous methods of awareness used by parents, often stemming from lack of knowledge or false perceptions.
