Everest Revisited 1924 - 2024

Filmmaker Dom Bush explores his personal relationship with risk through the story of one of his climbing idols, Pete Whillance. A quiet pioneer of extreme rock climbing, Pete established some of Britain's most challenging traditional routes in the late 1970s and 1980s. He is also one of the most prolific route setters in British climbing history, with nearly 1,400 routes to his credit, established over six decades. At 76, Pete continues to climb and set new routes.

One hundred years on from the first Everest expedition, the film explores the history of the expeditions in 1921, 1922 and 1924. Julie Summers, the grandniece of Sandy Irvine, guides us through the history with contributions from many distinguished climbers. The film brings the past into the present using John Noel’s original film and many images from the Alpine Club Collection.

Two filmmakers set out for Nepal to find the exact spot from where legendary mountaineer and photographer Vittorio Sella captured the first images of Mount Everest 125 years ago.
