Time to Change

As the summer of 1980 ends, 16 and 17 year old sisters Maria and Alda flee to Lisbon from Angola?s civil war. In the hands of fate, they must learn to live without money in a foreign city. On the edge of the law, the two have to grow up and become women. When the problems are already overwhelming, news comes that makes them unbearable. This blow, however, will give them the push to decide their futures: Alda is going to France and Maria back to Angola in search of her roots.

The life of a Dutch couple who ran a farm in central Portugal before the devastating fires that hit the area in the summer of 2017. What remains is a continuous emergency, a resistance in everyday life that does not forget the trauma of destruction.

Filmed immediately after the end of the civil war in Angola, Há Sempre Alguém Que Te Ama records the return of Pocas Pascoal to the country where she was born, in an attempt to reconstruct the episode that, in 1975, led to the capture of the director along with her mother and sisters. An intimate documentary about memory and self-(re)construction.

The first time you hear it, it doesn't seem like a big deal. The word is strange and the tone in which it was used could be offensive. In the village the word soon spreads and as it passes from mouth to mouth it becomes heavier and takes on a markedly offensive character. As the village gets angrier, all the small misunderstandings in everyday life become serious business. There is only one solution: exposing the cases and their origin - the word barely heard and poorly said - which, today, in the village, is the most devastating offense that can be thrown at our greatest enemy.
