Based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans-Christian Andersen. Two fraudulent apprentices undertook to make a new dress for the king, which had a magical property - only a clever man, who rightfully occupied his post, could see it. The king and his cronies, afraid of being accused of ignorance, did not dare to admit that they could not see anything.

A small town postal official allows a military officer to take his lovely daughter away to St. Petersburg, assuming the man will do the right thing and marry her. Instead, a future of scandal and tragedy await her.

The film tells the story of Judas and Satan wandering the world in search of a virgin who could become the mother of the new Evil.

"Polikushka" was the only film directed by Aleksandr Sanin, one of Moscow Art Academic Theatre's founders, and is based on Lev Tolstoy's homonym short story. In spite the many differences between the literary oeuvre and its film adaptation it is a remarkable work that is outstanding for its depiction of the cruel realities of Russian society -the harsh life condition of its main character and his family in contrast to the wealth of his mistress;

As she works in her tedious office job, Maria Ivanovna dreams about being married, and she has particular hopes that her co-worker Nikodim Mityushin will take an interest in her. Nikodim, though, is in love with Zina, who sells cigarettes on the sidewalk, and he frequently buys cigarettes from her even though he does not smoke. One day, a film crew uses Zina as an extra in an outdoor scene, and the cameraman, Latugin, falls in love with her. Latugin soon arranges an acting job for Zina. To complicate matters further, Zina has yet another admirer in Oliver MacBride, an American businessman who is visiting Moscow.

A small skater at a skating rink accidentally pushes a respectable man skating with a lady. Fleeing from pursuit, he gets on the running track and is the first to finish. The enthusiastic spectators give him a standing ovation.
