Ex prime Minister Eva Vogler causes a scandal at the Nobel Banquet and soon finds herself lost in the desert of the real. There she is confronted by her doppelgänger and other characters, one of them a possessed man pretending to be her husband. Throughout the film voice messages are being left on Vogler’s answering machine, suggesting reasons leading to the scandal. The doppelgängers pose a danger for all the lost souls wandering in the desert, since they seek to destroy the original and move forward to a metaverse free of human suffering.

M is a work of art that explores the relationship between sexuality and death. These two appear to be at opposite poles, but in fact they merge in all of us, disguising the fear of death or the desire to die, the world of Eros. In M the character of Marilyn Monroe should be seen as a symbol of this interpenetration. The actress´s death is as famous as her sexuality and thus sets a perfect example of how the ancient bond between sex and death is being forever mystified and exploited by the popular culture. M attempts to explore this phenomenon in a much more personal level.

How do artists view their own work? How does actor Esko Salminen immerse himself in his roles, how does the writer/director Saara Turunen create a whole new world for the stage, and why does musician PK Keränen pick up his guitar time and time again? Is creativity a conscious or subconscious process, a pleasure or a compulsion? Veikko Aaltonen’s documentary takes us straight into the heart of creativity with artists from different fields and generations. Celebrating the various forms of passion and creative work, the film presents a compelling case for the significance of art.
