A Banishment, A Refuge

During Christmas Eve, Dr. Tere tries to get to her daughter's house for dinner, but her plans are frustrated by numerous insufferable patients and an unexpected stomachache.

In a small village from the middle of Mexico, as a decaying mine's manager, a self-restrained 60 year old homosexual man is suffering from his secret lover's departure, while his little son unconsciously perceives the secret and the separation in one day.

After a lifetime together, Susana has been abandoned by her husband. She is in denial and holds on to the past. One day, she needs the help of her neighbor, Gloria, a free-spirited woman that she can’t stand. But the friendship that emerges between them awakens Susana's desire to live in the present.

A young woman receives a diary as an inheritance from her father, in which he tells her that she must take a trip to Chiapas, a requirement for access to all his possessions.

Aura, Juan, and Evaristo live in San Antonio del Querer, an old town that nobody remembers and nobody comes back to. Aura will try to leave her town and look for a new life elsewhere. She will tries to convince her father and grandfather to leave with her and save them from fading into oblivion.

In a peripheral zone of Mexico City, the collection of money from merchants and residents of the area is an everyday occurrence. On a sunny Sunday, in a housing unit located in one of these areas, a merchant has not paid his fee and the hired killers have come to give him an ultimatum.

A young boy called Samuel is trapped between the fantastic and nightmare world created by his grandmother. Samuel's world is in danger because his Father, Alcoriza, believes he is evil incarnate.

Camilo, an adolescent rower on a Xochimilco jetty, has his first sexual encounter with another man. One day he thinks he is being discovered by Beto, a colleague from work. When confronted, Camilo accidentally ends up revealing his homosexuality. Not knowing what to do, Camilo reacts violently and decides to flee Xochimilco.

Mexico 1926. Durazo is an outlaw and a former revolutionary. He is getting at the end of the quest for a coveted treasure. His mission will be interrupted by an unexpected meeting, which will define his life.

While their mother unpacks removal boxes, Valentina (5) and Quique (11) run riot around the flat. Their parents have separated. When their father picks them up to show them his new, old life, the children receive a painful glimpse into the adult world.

Miriam, a 13-year-old teenager, will do whatever it takes to attend a party, even if that means risking her little brother's life.

Watching the poems signed by deaf people in this film has a similarly mind-expanding effect. That’s because sign language—the Mexican version in this case—is a very different means of communication than written or spoken language.
