The lonely bank-employee Phillip follows a strict pattern of somewhat compulsive actions keeping his encounters with strangers to a minimum. When his home one day is robbed of all content and he later meets the enchanting blind cellist Lina, he finds, however, he needs to start improvising and taking chances.

As a 15-year-old, Marcus survived several concentration camps, changed his name after liberation, and settled in Germany. From then on, he suppressed his past until it caught up with him again, now over 80 years old. Since he wants to be buried according to Jewish tradition, he needs proof of his identity—the tattooed prisoner number is not enough for the bureaucratic rabbis. So the young German-Turkish woman Gül drives him to his Hungarian village of birth, where no one knows him anymore. Only a blind woman seems to have been expecting him.

16-year old Jan is absent-mindedly strolling through the streets when he's run over by roller-skating Nina. As fast as she has stormed into his life, however, she rushes off again. Nina is 15 years old and full of crazy ideas. She lives together with her brother, her father and his new girlfriend. Her mother isn't in touch much. That's why there is the unconventional Angel whose own daughter disappeared years ago and who is Nina's best friend and substitute mother.
