Chasing Birds

The traditional crafts of crochet and knitting have become one of the hottest movements in modern art. We follow a few International artists and knitters as they bring yarn to the streets and into our lives in new ways. Starting in Iceland, this quirky and thought-provoking film takes us on a colourful and global journey as we discover how yarn connects us all.

In the Crack of the Land is an allegorical tale of the threatened spirit of the Icelandic highlands. It is only during the night that the hidden folks come out and dance with the glacial river. But tracks in the snow lead to unforeseen results. With animation the film reflects a light on the parts of Icelandic culture that are sometimes forgotten or taken for granted, like the endangered highlands.

Something tries to find Nothing, and a philosophical chase ensues.

A woman is dealing with trauma, but tonight she might be going over the edge.

When politics and the power structure fail to embrace equal rights in the 1980s, women take matter into their own hands and permanently change how things are done, and the face of Icelandic society as a whole.

The film gives live to images and ideas from an old Icelandic manuscript written and illustrated by a man named Jón Bjarnason in the 19th century. It gives an interesting insight into his world view which was narrowed by limited access to literature.

This documentary tells the story of the Icelandic Red-stocking movement in the seventies.
