The film follows the events of the night of February 4, 1992 in Caracas, Venezuela. That night a group of military rebels staged a coup d'etat. Venezuelans found themselves as virtual prisoners. As the coup starts and fighting takes place from a military base which is in the center of the city's most affluent areas, with both luxury high rises and palatial mansions. The area of La Carlota provides a wealth of very interesting, often flamboyant and typical characters of the Latin America upper middle and upper classes. They are among the most affected. Various vignettes in these different characters' homes are developed. These people's reactions, lifestyles, vices, and humanity come out in a very honest fashion under duress.

Emperatriz is a Mexican telenovela produced by Fides Velasco for Azteca. It stars Gabriela Spanic as the title character, while Bernie Paz as the male lead. La Patrona is a Spanish-language telenovela produced by United States-based television network Telemundo Studios, Miami and Mexican Argos Comunicación. The telenovela is a remake of the Venezuelan telenovela La Dueña, written by José Ignacio Cabrujas. The name reflects a local term or slang in Mexico to address a person recognized as the main boss. However, the title is also a reflection of both the protagonist and the antagonist struggle to conquer power, authority and respect in a labor field traditionally deemed to be a man's job.

La Dama de Rosa is a successful Venezuelan telenovela that was produced by and seen on Venezuela's Radio Caracas Televisión. Jeannette Rodríguez and Carlos Mata starred as the main protagonists. It was written by José Ignacio Cabrujas and directed by Luis Manzo and Tito Rojas. This telenovela lasted 144 episodes and it achieved a significant amount of success inside and outside Venezuela. It was distributed internationally by RCTV International. La Dama de Rosa was remade by RCTV in 1997 under the name "Cambio de Piel".

Un nuevo amor was a Mexican telenovela produced by Fides Velasco and broadcast by TV Azteca in 2003. It starred antagonistically by Karen Sentíes, as a leading couple had Cecilia Ponce, Sergio Basañez and Vanessa Acosta (it should be noted that Cecilia Ponce left the telenovela halfway through history and was replaced by Vanessa Acosta).

Cambio de Piel is a Venezuelan telenovela that was produced by and seen on Venezuela's Radio Caracas Televisión. It was written by José Ignacio Cabrujas and Perla Farias and directed by Tony Rodrígues. This telenovela lasted 110 episodes and was distributed internationally by RCTV International. It is a remake of RCTV's 1986 telenovela, La Dama de Rosa.
