Josip Bogoslaw Tanko (April 21, 1906 – October 5, 1993) was a Croat filmmaker who directed O Trapalhão nas Minas do Rei Salomão, one of the biggest cinematic hits in Brazil of all time. Colonel Polidoro is the political chief of the small town of Passaroca. Near the city hall elections, he decides to help his candidate by setting up an adult literacy course. For this, he needs to find a competent teacher and decides to go to Rio de Janeiro with this function. False moralist that is, ends up falling in the revelry, meets a beautiful dancer and invites the girl to spend the carnival on his farm. Drunk, he confuses the addresses and causes his driver to take the dancer in place of the teacher to Passaroca, which will cause a lot of confusion.

Two fishermen Dogfish names Zé Cação and Lula discover the result of a theft of a dangerous gang of smugglers and go immediately to be persecuted by them. In pursuit of the bandits is also the federal agent Carlos, passionate young Diana, of which the fishermen meet and become friends. The action takes place on board the Fishermen, however, when the weather warms there comes the pirate Long John Silver, who is looking for a fabulous map of a treasure that was hidden on a nearby island. The map, now divided into two parts, it becomes cause for persecution, with plenty of good humor and adrenaline, which changed hands throughout the film and leading everyone to the island where the treasure was buried.

The old woman mistakenly gives him a photo of the singer Tony Marques, her daughter's former boyfriend. Zezé sets off to find her supposed father and ends up getting disastrously involved in the singer's life.

This movie is a spoof of "Planet of the Apes" (1968) and follows the storyline of the original step by step - in spite of being a crazy parody of the original film. A group of men lands in a balloon on an area (it's not a planet, it's more like a hill) where talking apes rule and humans are slaves. The apes try to transform the guys in monkeys; a simian princess falls in love with one of them; and so on. This film is one of the several movies made for the popular Brazilian group "Os Trapalhões" - Didi (Renato Aragão), Dedé, Mussum and Zacarias (who at this point hadn't joined the troupe yet) -, many of them inspired by American blockbusters. It's a very fun entertainment, but the humor is very "local" to be understood in other countries. Oh, yeah, the ape "makeup" is terrible, but that's part of the fun. The movie doesn't take itself seriously.
