The Beginning

A talented girl from the provincial Russian town Pasha Stroganova dreams of becoming an actress. She plays the role of Baba Yaga in the amateur theatre — and does it so organically that the visiting filmmaker offers her the most difficult role in the historical drama about Joan of Arc. She was given not only great acting talent, but the talent of deep, selfless love. A dream comes true: she is invited to the main role, and she begins a completely different life, full of real creative torment, insights and true happiness.

Anna Georgievna Smirnova is a serious, businesslike and judicious person. It was these strengths of her character that helped the woman achieve high career results. Anna is a deputy and director of a textile factory in the Moscow region, who has long put an end to her personal life. She lives with her elderly mother. Her husband died, and her only daughter, Irina, is married. But suddenly, in a sanatorium in the southern resort of Anna, she meets a man named Volodya. He is a Muscovite, a former pilot, and now a driver. Volodya is younger than Anna, behind him two unsuccessful marriages. Between already middle-aged people a feeling of mutual sympathy erupts.

On the Way to Berlin

During the dangerous last days of WWII, a Red Army soldier tries to set up an occupation government on the outskirts of Berlin, which has not yet surrendered.

Hell, Or A Dossier Against Oneself

In 1948, a young director, Viktor Kostrov, is arrested after being denounced by his lover’s father. Beria’s inquisition, the horrors of camp life, and the vengeance of criminals form the grim backdrop for the story’s characters: a sadistic warden, a camp boss, Viktor’s terrified fiancée, and her father, an NKVD officer. Based on the autobiographical story by Gennady Beglov.

After the end of the civil war, sailor Ivan Ivanov, who dreams of working at the legendary Putilov factory, arrives in Petrograd to build a new life.
