Eddie and Maria enjoy an idyllic life in their remote countryside farmhouse. But their happiness is threatened by the arrival of Kullmann, an old friend of Eddie's with whom he had committed a crime that landed Kullmann in jail.

This farce cocerns Sweden's King Gustav (Per Oscarsson who plays all the lead roles). The royal monarchs of three major European countries are patiently or not-so-patiently hovering on the sidelines while watching the future King Gustav closely. No single king appears to possess the brains he was born with, so history seems to be made by default, as it were. Gustav does blunder around, but not enough to miss being crowned king. As a result, France, England, and Germany invade Sweden hoping to take by force what they could not gain by incompetence.

The story concerns the Yugoslavian holiday of two toothsome Swedish girls. One of the girls, played by Maria Liljedahl, is (metaphorically speaking) a world-champion in the promiscuity sweepstakes, bedding men (and women) in great profusion. Somehow, the movie also manages to be about film reviewers and film directors. Variety commented '...the film's inherently good visual and physical qualities are themselves dissipated in [the director's] cynicism, ennui, and involuted intellectual mirror tricks.'

The old man PETTSON and his cat FINDUS live on a small farm way out in the countryside in Sweden. Christmas is approaching, and Pettson has given Findus the rash promise that THE TOMTE will come around with gifts for him at Christmas Eve. Pettson does not believe in the Tomte, but in order not to disappoint his cat, he decides to build an artificial Tomte - a mechanical TOMTE MACHINE. Pettson has a hard time keeping the project secret from Findus and getting the machine to actually work in due time. But somehow a mysterious magical force interferes...

Matti and Niila, growing up in the mid-sixties in the harsh and conservative environment of a Finnish-speaking part of Tornedalen in Swedish Laponia, close to the Finnish border. Their big dream is to become rock stars. In the present the now grown-up Matti feels guilt for the death of his drug-addicted rock star friend Niila.

A swimming machine turns up that has been doctored and modified into a tile thrower, but the machine malfunctions and causes an accident that imparts Pettson with amnesia. Suddenly, it seems as though the only hope for Pettson lies in old stories that will jog his memory, such as the tale about Findus getting lost as a kitten and the one about Pettson and Findus embarking on a thrilling treasure hunt.

Eva Jansson's dead body is found by a local farmer, who calls the police. Soon after fashion designer Maj Berg comes driving the same road and is stopped by the police. When the road is cleared for traffic Mrs. Berg drives on but happens to get a flat tire. While changing to the spare wheel, she finds a black notebook in the ditch. Back in Stockholm she opens the notebook and finds a strange jotting that concerns her.

Zac, Fanny and her daughter Alice travels back to to the small village in Ostergotland. Alice makes them return - where does she come from, what are her roots? The question about who Fanny's dad is, arises once more. And Alice, who's her dad?
