The action of the film begins in the Crimea in 1787. Representatives of the Western powers once again begin their intrigues against Russia, but the main characters, former midshipmen, who have already reached a respectable age by this time, and their adult children, stand up to defend their homeland. They have to sail to the Crimea from Malta and there take part in the war with Turkey; in particular, to take part in the battle of Kinburn under the command of Suvorov.

Russia, January 25, 1725. "Give it all...". The emperor's weakening hand was able to write in his will only these two short incomprehensible words that kept Russia in a bloody struggle for the crown for a century.

Crimea, 1787. Despite the Manifesto of the Russian Empress Catherine and the Kuchuk-Kainardzhi peace treaty, which forever united Crimea with Russia, Europe continues to weave intrigues, trying to break this sacred union. In the undercover struggle, all methods were used - from shameless gossip, dark rumors and false articles in newspapers to dirty manipulations with the illegitimate son of the empress sent to Europe for training - Alexei Bobrinsky, a passionate gambler and brawler. This weakness was cleverly exploited by international intriguers. Catherine instructs her faithful friends, the midshipmen, to cut the knot of the conspiracy ... Together with the fathers, their grown-up children, Shurka and Alexandra, go into battle.

As a result of a successful conspiracy against Menshikov, Peter II is prematurely recognized as an adult and is in a hurry to be crowned in Moscow. The Dolgoruky brothers gather for this celebration. There were eight of them - all-powerful and influential representatives of the ancient Rurikovich family - and among them the beautiful Ekaterina, the daughter of the huntsman Alexei.

Europe and Russia are shocked by the unexpected death of the young Emperor Peter II. He died at the age of 14, leaving behind neither an heir nor a will. Who will get the crown of the Russian Empire? A fierce struggle for power begins. Having chosen Anna Ioannovna, the Privy Council hoped to use her as a puppet and a screen for the implementation of their own selfish plans. But the nobles were mistaken - the people do not like eight tyrants. Let there be a tyrant, but only ONE!

A young singer from Buryat-Mongolian collective farm is sent to Moscow to study. Despite his strong voice, he fails a music exam. After the police station he becomes a soloist in a choir and a police sergeant, while studying music reading and dreaming of a conservatory.

Moscow is excited about the upcoming event — the betrothal of the Emperor and Catherine. Ekaterina and Millesimo try to escape from Russia, but their conspiracy is exposed. Millesimo is brutally beaten, the fugitive is put under lock and key. Seeing Millesimo at the engagement, the shocked Catherine drops the ring, and everyone sees this as a bad sign. And that's right: exhausted by endless hunting, drunkenness and nervous shocks, Peter II falls ill. Dolgoruky keep his illness a secret.

Being childless, but at the same time wanting to finally consolidate on the Russian throne of his - "Peter's" line of the Romanov dynasty, Empress Elizabeth Petrovna decides to marry his nephew Karl Peter Ulrich, brought from Prussia, called in Russia "Peter Fyodorovich" to some noble, but preferably not very rich and not very willful European "princess". Elizabeth is intrigued by the brave young guardsman and his intercession for Yaguzhinskaya, and she gives Belov "an assignment of national importance" - to secretly bring his important guests to Russia from Prussia. The ubiquitous vice-chancellor Bestuzhev learns about it.
