The fanclub of a deceased Japanese idol gather together for the one year anniversary of her death. By combining forces they try to unearth the true circumstances surrounding her supposed suicide.

The story of a strange living situation in a 2LDK apartment in suburban Tokyo. There are five residents ranging in age from eighteen to twenty-eight. They are not in any way romantically involved with one another, but one can see subtle hints of affection and friendship among them. In the end, however, none of them really know each other.

Haiji was an elite runner, but has not competed due to a past injury. He then meets fellow elite runner Kakeru who also left running, but caused by a dispute. Their meeting inspires both young men to run again, with Haiji choosing the fabled "Hakone Ekiden" (long distance relay race). The race requires a 10 member team so Haiji and Kakeru recruits 8 others (some of whom have never even run before). Within this unlikely group of runners a bond is formed through their training and a belief that they can accomplish the impossible.

Nodame on the other hand attended the conservatory to attain her dream to one-day play the piano for Chiaki. After her hard work, Nodame was given a chance to have a mini recital. During the recital, Chiaki saw her worth and realized that he cannot go on with out her.

Class 3-D is a bunch of students who looks more like delinquents and trouble makers. The students show no respect to teachers nor a little kindness. Each and every student doesn't like teacher for almost everyone has no good memories of them. The leader of the class is Sawada Shin. He is well respected for there are rumors that he beat a teacher to death. The students try there hardest to bully and make fun of her so she'll quit but all there efforts went to waste because Yamaguchi ain't an ordinary Teacher. Yamaguchi Kumiko is actually the 4th generation heir to Oedo group, a yakuza clan. Even though everyone in there clan wants her to the next leader, she made up her mind and so everyone accepted it.

There are four episodes based on short stories by mystery novelist Yokoyama Hideo. Each episode depicts a stand-alone murder mystery.

Nakano Hitomi is an ordinary employee who works for the Metropolitan Police Department’s General Affairs Section. Her job is to check the receipts for investigation expenses that the detectives pay in advance, but she is extremely sharp in detecting cases because she was raised by her father, who is a swindler. When serial killings and injuries occur, she is also the first to realise that the victims' names are linked to a word game in which one victim’s name contains the last character of the name of the previous victim. Hitomi uses detective Togawa of the First Investigative Division, whom she became acquainted with after finding discrepancies in his receipts and scheming lawyer Shirai Shinnosuke who works his way into the favour of victims to find work that pays well, to get close to the truth of the case.

Meanwhile, Takashi tries to find the truth about the three boys.
