East Germany 1978. Karoline and Robert, teenagers who used to live in the same house until Robert's family moved, meet again at this year's holiday-camp. Empty boxes and packaging, a little paint, brushes and a lot of imagination - the result is a whole zoo with Balthazar the Lion. He only has one fault - his mouth is a little too big and now he eats everything that gets in his way. When he doesn't even stop at the moon, the other animals are forced to intervene and the painter gives Balthazar a smaller mouth.

The little African girl Asina is eagerly waiting for her new friend Karli. Karli is a young sailor from Rostock who has promised her a gift on his next arrival in Coccatuttibana. Karli keeps his promise and smuggles a stowaway onboard the “MS Wismar”. Kasimir, a snowman, finds shelter in a cooling chamber. Although the journey turns out to be turbulent, Karli and Kasimir manage to arrive in Africa in good health.
