When his wife Barbara divorces him, Josef plunges into a life crisis and moves in with his lawyer friend Roman, whose household he thoroughly overhauls with feng shui and esotericism. In the meantime, Andreas, the third member of the family, has a child with Josef's ex-wife Barbara - but is overwhelmed as a father. Josef and Andreas join forces to form a fatherhood community. The owner of the apartment, Roman, is a nuisance and flees to Barbara.

The former waiter Ernst Held believes himself to be called higher and seeks self-realization as a poet. When he recites poems to his wife's beautician in an ambiguous situation, his wife puts him out the door.
