The invasion of a village in Belarus by German forces sends young Florya into the forest to join the weary Resistance fighters, against his family's wishes. There he meets a girl, Glasha, who accompanies him back to his village. On returning home, Florya finds his family and fellow peasants massacred. His continued survival amidst the brutal debris of war becomes increasingly nightmarish, a battle between despair and hope.

The movie tells the story of Franz, a Waffen-SS soldier who deserts, and Polina, a Belarusian woman whose village is razed and people massacred.

One of the five-part documentary series by Belarusian writer and director Viktor Dashuk, which recounts the horrors experienced by the Belarusian people during World War II, through firsthand accounts of survivors and newsreel footage.

The film takes place during the Great Patriotic War. Tolya and Aleksey, the sons of Anna Korzun, became partisans and fought against the invaders in the BSSR.

The theme of the film is the political responsibility of the CPSU to the people. Along with newsreel footage and fragments of feature films, a brief fragment of the speech of Yu. Boldyrev, member of the Committee of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, at the XXVIII Congress of the CPSU, as well as speeches in different years by N. Khrushchev, M. Suslov, D. Likhachev, which touch on aspects of this complex problem, is given.

World War II. In autumn 1941 the German troops completely surrounded one of the biggest Russian cities — Leningrad. 2,5 million civilians got trapped in the city. The German commandment decided to destroy the city with bombings, artillery attacks and, most importantly, with hunger. The most difficult first winter of the siege (1941 — 1942). A young woman Olga is walking through the whole city to her father. She wants to see him one last time to say goodbye and to ask for his forgiveness.
