Chan, an articulate senior detective nearing the end of his career, is taking care of the daughter of a witness killed by ruthless crime lord Po. Martial arts expert Ma is set to take over as head of the crime unit, replacing Chan who wants an early retirement.

After his father abandons the family, Autumn Moon drops out of high school and becomes a debt collector for the Triads. On his rounds, he meets and falls in love with Ping, a daughter of one of the Triads' clients. She is suffering from a fatal kidney disease, and to pay for her medical expenses, Autumn Moon takes an assassination contract, but as he slips deeper into the criminal underworld, he's haunted by a figure from his past.

Yan-Hong is arrested by Cheng and is interrogated, then she reports to her superior, the leather-clad Dai-Jeh ("Big Sister"), who practices her evil laugh and hands out a whipping as punishment. Later, a dozy Taoist priest is called in to exorcise the Beauty and her Evil Roses. The priest fails, but lays the groundwork for the final showdown between good and evil.

In the first of a two-part film project, three short stories from acclaimed Hong Kong writer Lilian Lee are adapted for the big screen in this horror anthology.

Plainclothes policemen Brian and Mike use an elderly woman's apartment for surveillance, hoping to catch a fugitive gangster. Xiaomai and Qiushou grew up together and fell in love, but he suddenly disappeared from her life 15 years ago without a word. She begins to believe that Qiushou has returned and may be seeking revenge.

This could be good–the undercover cops are a blond Anthony Wong, posing as a priest, and the usually-entertaining Sam Lee, trying to pass himself off as a teacher. Also in the cast are Gillian Chung (of the musical group Twins), and Rachel Fu Tin Wing (also a singer, formerly known as Skinny Girl), who plays a character with a black belt in karate.

Lightning fast action, pleasant humor, great acting and a helpful modern-day narrator makes this an unusually enjoyable Shaw Brothers production.
