A military explorer meets and befriends a Goldi man in Russia’s unmapped forests. A deep and abiding bond evolves between the two men, one civilized in the usual sense, the other at home in the glacial Siberian woods.

Russia, 1919. A young soldier of the First Cavalry Army, Aleksei Mikhalyov, is sent to work in the provincial Cheka. Here in the south of the country there is a large White Guard underground led by the elusive Markov. Aleksei gets into the gang, where he is mistaken for his own. The day of the operation to eliminate the white underground is appointed. But unforeseen circumstances destroy the plans of the Chekists.

Four former soldiers reunite 25 years after the war. Last time they saw each other on the Byelorussian railway station in the summer of 1945. Now they've come together to mourn the death of a friend.

During WWII, Dmitro Goritsvit, a partisan commander, fights against fascists and Barabolei in Ukraine, joined by villagers Marta, Ganusia, and injured Red Army commanders Savva Tur and Mikhail Sozinov.

The death of their exceptional father shakes the Shatmanov family to its core, forcing them to reflect on the past and future. Erkin, who has built a life in Moscow, faces criticism from relatives who see him as having betrayed his roots. Yet his love and work keep him tied to the city. This film delves into the inner struggles of a modern man torn between duty and belonging.

The film consists of four episodes, adaptations of S. Mikhalkov's short stories "The Find," "Calm," "The Toy Director," and "Some Girl."
