Maari, a young village girl, is madly in love with Thangarasu, her cousin. She sacrifices her love in the hope that he will lead a happy life being married to a wealthy girl.

A straightforward man, who uses violence to settle disputes, decides to mend his ways for the sake of his lover, but when he learns that her family is in danger, he decides to save them at all cost.

Arumugham is an uneducated, good hearted, helpful village hick. Easwari is his childhood friend. They So Gangamma tried to kill Kathirvel but Meenakshi intervened and was accidentally by her mother. Before her death, Kathirvel promised Meenakshi to not kill her mother. Kathirvel is now determined to unite the lovers. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
