ellaichaamy (Vijayakanth) thinks the world of his three brothers, even giving up marriage when he learns that the woman he loves plans to send them to a hostel after the wedding. The brothers live with their grandmother (S. N. Lakshmi). He works hard to raise them and they too reciprocate his love and affection. The eldest of the three, Muthu (Vijayakanth again), is a cook in a small hotel, When Vellachamy learns that Muthu is in love with his childhood playmate (Meena) he goes to the city to his friend (Rajiv) with the marriage proposal. Only to be insulted! Circumstances bring Muthu to the city, to the girl's palatial bungalow where he works as a cook. The girl is arrogant and rude till she realises that Muthu is her childhood pal. And now it is she who does all the wooing and persuades her father to get her married to Muthu.

Ranganayak, a rich women, has three sons : Gopi, Madhu and Balu. Ranganayaki wants absolutely a grandson and she will pass on her whole inheritance to her son who has a male child. The elder sons have only daughters and Balu is still bachelor. Balu is a singer in the marriage functions and he falls in love with Swathi, a girl from a middle-class family. He gets married with her and Swathi becomes pregnant. Balu's best friend, Raja, an honest journalist, is married to Shanthi and his wife is also pregnant. Swathi and Shanthi deliver the same day. Balu has a daughter although Raja has a son. In the meantime, Ranganayaki has a severe heart attack and the doctor says to not reveal shock news. In the hospital, a misunderstanding happens and Balu's father shows Raja's son to Ranganayaki in a serious condition. Ranganayaki is immediately recovered. Balu maintains the lie to save his mother's life. What transpires next forms the rest of the story.

Subhadramma is a gutsy woman who raises her two daughters single-handedly after her husband Narayankutty deserts her. Shivankutty, her neighbor is a linesman who is in love with her daughter Parvathy. After the initial resistance, Subhadramma agrees to their marriage. Gayathri Devi is suddenly killed under suspicious circumstances and Ananthapkrishnan is swept into her dangerous world.

Vijay, a guy with a careless attitude, gets Selvam, a senior home inmate, to act as his dad for an important business deal. Gradually, both help each other through their own experiences and problems.
