Set during the time of the Chola invasion, the film tells the story of a courageous Pandiyan king. The king filled the hearts of his people with courage, patriotism and faith to help fight the Cholas.

Amidst a troubled kingdom that currently has no ruler, a revolutionary finds himself to be a lookalike of a prince who was to be crowned king. He takes his place but can he outsmart the real culprit?

Mani is employed as a driver with Marudachalam. Mani and his employer's daughter Susheela fall in love with each other and get married against Marudachalam's wishes. This also enrages Nagu, her father's business partner who intended to marry Susheela. In order to make her marriage successful, Susheela disowns her father and his wealth. Mani, on the other hand, loses his mother after a prolonged illness.

A thief breaks into a wealthy man's house unaware that the man is his father, who had abandoned his mother and him a long time ago.

Sattanathan, a lawyer, mistakes Velan for Raghu, another lawyer. When Raghu learns about this, he helps Velan continue the charade since Velan loves Sattanathan's daughter.

Manickam, who was raised by a farmer, finds out that Thangappapuram, a rich businessman, is his biological father. When Manickam reveals his identity, Thangappapuram does not believe him.

Sivagnanam is a humble bank clerk, living a modest life with his wife Lakshmi and their children. Although his salary is low, he handles large sums of money at the bank. When the bank collapses, Sivagnanam loses his job and, feeling desperate, considers suicide so that his family can benefit from his life insurance. However, his soul reaches the court of Yama, the god of death. Angered by his reckless act, Yama sends him back to Earth to witness the consequences of his death. Unable to intervene, Sivagnanam watches as his son is arrested for stealing food, his daughter is assaulted, and his wife, after killing the rapist, drowns herself in a well.

Sukumar is misled into investing all his savings in the moviemaking business. However, things take a turn when he ends up debt-ridden and at the mercy of the law.

Meenakshi, an unwed mother, leaves her baby in Nathan’s car after her lover, Moorthy, abandons her. Though Nathan takes care of the child, his girlfriend, Mohana, becomes suspicious of him.

Sundaram, a member of a musical band, goes to chennai to earn money for his sister's marriage but his look-alike brother Ranjit, tricks him. Ranjit carries out his illegal trade without any trouble.

A social worker rescues a pretty young woman from an old rich landlord who wants to marry her. Enraged by this, the landlord falsely accuses the social worker of murdering his employee.

Murugan and his sister, who are orphans, are adopted by a diamond merchant, Dhayalan, after they help him save his diamonds from thieves. Years later, Murugan is framed for Dhayalan's murder.

After losing his entire wealth to a courtesan, Kovalan returns to his wife, Kannagi. She offers him her last piece of jewellery to help him but he is falsely accused of theft and beheaded by the king.

Rangan (M.G.R) the very loving brother of Thangam, though only a cart puller, dreams of educating his sister, to become a doctor. So, when he learns of his sister's love with Murali (Muthuraman), a doctor, he gets them married, in a grand manner. Murali's mother, after their marriage, learns that Thangam is the daughter of Velappan, her husband's (mill owner Karunakaran) murderer. Thangam is thrown out of the house. Rangan finds out that his father, who is still languishing in jail, had been falsely implicated. He vows to bring the real culprits to book. His fiancé Valli (Jayalalitha), helps him nab the murderers. It is proved at last that justice always wins.

Kannan is the adopted son of a retired Captain and Sundaram is the biological son. Mallika is the niece of this rich man, who is engaged, at birth to Sundaram. Mallika is secretly in love with Kannan. Malathi lost her father in an accident; she now lives with the widow as her adopted daughter.
