We follow Diana and Julian as they prepare for the arrival of Alex and Timo, who they have invited to their home for the weekend. Diana is nervous. As soon as she is confronted with the self-confident and ravishingly sexy Alex, her insecurity increases even more. Timo seems disinterested, a sharp contrast to the boyish excitement of Julian. But as night falls and their sexual exploration begins, we notice Timo may not be as casual as he initially seemed and Diana on the other hand contains hidden strength. After years of suppressing her desires, Stella finds she can no longer ignore her deep-rooted longings. Even as her husband uncovers his Stella's secret life, he can't do much more than give her the freedom that she obviously needs, in the hope it's all just a phase. Then one day she finds herself lying unconscious in a basement cell, with no idea how she arrived there. Days go by when an other woman is brought into her cell. Christine, a woman about the same age. In the following days they reveal their life stories to one other. Christine is convinced that the reason for their captivity lies in Stella's lifestyle.

Set in the Netherlands, 'Burden' gives a contemporary glimpse of the dynamics of two relationships between Eastern European women and Dutch men. The movie explores their respective cultural differences. It explores female friendships and the difficulties of being 'foreign' in your adopted country. Also, how fate puts the friendship of these two women, one from Russia, and one from Ukraine, to the test by outside forces.

Susan is a successful, young businesswoman who apparently lives the perfect life: a good career and an upcoming marriage. During a visit to Belgium, however, she suddenly comes face to face with Jules, a notorious murderer who is just being transported from the court. He leaves her confused and intrigued. Without knowing why Susan tries to get in touch with this man, who turns out to be a simple and humble man who killed his girlfriend 14 years ago. During his imprisonment Jules has become a Christian. He and Susan develop a close friendship and it appears that Susan has been carrying a secret since childhood. Their relationship causes a split between her and David, her husband-to-be, who turns out to be a jealous and dangerous character. He keeps telling Susan that Jules can't be trusted. Susan decides there's only one way to find out: she pushes him to the extreme. Will she survive? Based on a true story.
