In a boarding house in the inner city lives Flora - a fresh Copenhagen girl with a burning dream: She wants to be a journalist. Accompanied by loud gramophone music, the typewriter clatters far into the night. But it is not easy to sell stories to the busy press, and Flora has only one last idea that can secure the rent: An interview with shipowner Olivarius, who has bought a precious Chinese statuette. But nothing goes as Flora expects, and soon she is on the hunt for a dramatic robbery story and - not least - in love with the suspected thief!

In the idyllic provincial town of Gammelkøbing lives Emanuel Thomsen, known as Thummelumsen. It is his great dream to buy the Møllegården, which was once owned by the family, and for 15 years he has been scrimping and saving to get by. Christmas at an old rectory in the countryside – it's Christmas! And the three student brothers, "Gamle", "Corpus Juris" and Nicolai, are delighted to receive an invitation to spend Christmas with the priest in Nøddebo. The fact that there are also a couple of young daughters in the rectory naturally makes it all even more enjoyable. It's the first time Nicolai has gone along, so he knows nothing about his older brothers' infatuation with the two girls and falls head over heels for them, assuming that they can't handle his charm either. Things don't quite go his way now, because he finds himself pursued everywhere by the anything but pretty Maldrubine, whose warmest interest is the pleasures of the table.

When Møller Jakob Clausen of "Højmøllen" sits at his wife's deathbed, he makes her promise that if he marries again, he will choose a woman who will be good to their little son, Hans. And in motherly care for her little son, the dying wife mentions the forester's gentle and kind sister, Hanne, who will surely be able to become both a faithful wife for the miller and a good mother for Hans.

A picture of the life of the Danish people from the late 1820s to the introduction of the free constitution in 1849. A fictional character, Rasmus Nielsen, travels around the country, first as a traveling teacher, later in other positions, and through his experiences we are introduced to the conditions of various population groups. The central figure in the portrayal of historical figures is the politician Orla Lehmann.

Peter Soeborg and Susanne have been happily married for a month. He is a postman, but very gifted voice and in a couple of years participated as korherre Alhambra Theatre's operettas. Peter and especially his cute little wife proud dreams for the future, and their mutual friend, the old dresser Kragelund, who lives in the same house, also believe in Peter's abilities. There has to be premiered at the operetta "Love", and Peter hopes to be considered. But it should prove to be quite easy.

In 1516, King Christian II, on the advice of his Dutch-born mother Sigbrit, summoned 80 members from Holland and let them settle in St. Magleby and the surrounding area with the obligation that they would "supply Copenhagen Castle with the necessary roots and onions". Later, these skilled gardeners mixed with the other inhabitants of the island, almost all of whom adopted their customs and traditions, as well as their peculiar folk costumes.

Sailor and tomboy Else (Gerd Gjedved) is fighting for the family's schooner 'Nordstjernen'. Shipping-heir Steen (Hans Kurt) has fallen from his rich father's grace to serve as a 'Nordstjernen' sailor. Will Else and Steen be only colleagues?

Due to his gambling addiction, farmer Hans Sværke has brought his farm to the brink of bankruptcy, thereby opening up the opportunity for the wealthy landowner Karius to achieve his goal of taking over the farm. However, parish bailiff Mikkelsen vouches for Sværke and saves him for the time being, and Sværke then leases the farm. Sværke dies, and his talented son Niels takes over the lease. He and the farmer's daughter, Grethe, are happy together, and Niels manages to get her hired at the farm. But Karius' daughter, who is in love with Niels, burns with jealousy and persuades her father to take advantage of Niels' difficult financial situation and take over the farm. Things look bleak for Niels, who has been cornered by the wealthy landowner. But one day while plowing, he sees something glinting in the soil...

Peter Vipperup is a tailor in a small provincial town. He has to work hard to make ends meet for himself and his family. One fine day, Vipperup's brother, Andres, returns home from America. He is a completely different type than the little Lapp tailor, and he has had good luck on the other side of the Atlantic. A few cunning minds in town have seen through Andres' wealth and devise a plan to secure a share of the wealth by appointing the tailor as director of a newly started bank - and then exploiting his naivety.

At the dinner for their school's 100th anniversary, three old schoolmates meet. All three have done well in life, for Eyvind is now a respected judge, Herluf the stern director of a glassworks and Ove the owner of a printing house. In the time after the dinner, the coincidences of the three men's lives will become entangled in a way none of them could have foreseen. Fortunately, they still have their old principal in the background to pull the strings.

Amelie is in love with a young musician. But since her parents believe she should marry someone of her own social standing, nothing immediately comes of the relationship. Hans is very much in love with Amelie. When they are seen dancing together at a music evening at Amelie's parents' house, Amelie's father throws him out. Before that, however, he falls out with Baron von Listow. Hans goes on a drinking binge, while the baron challenges his friend to a duel. The friend sends Hans to Germany to play there. Several months pass, and the baron and Amelie are to be married. When Bierbaum finds out about this, he seeks out Amelie. Little does he know that Hans has returned from Germany.

Klaus Seeberg is conducting research to find a new perfume. His wife Dagny is growing impatient, which is why she secretly hooks up with Joachim Friis-Olsen. When Klaus discovers this, he goes to Paris to sell his invention. One evening in Paris, he meets a Danish woman named Betty. Back in Denmark, Klaus' aunt throws a party. In addition to Joachim, Betty unexpectedly shows up at the party. What will Klaus do now? Is he in love with Betty?

Architect Poul Friis Henriksen falls in love with Norwegian Gerd. Unfortunately, she is already engaged to the doctor Arne Lorentzen, whose former wife died of an overdose under mysterious circumstances. Gerd invites Poul to a party at her home, where he accidentally sees her secretly taking a syringe. This makes Poul suspect that Arne is anything but the perfect husband. He sets out to investigate the matter further.
