Three girls (around 20 years old) who have grown up in different parts of Denmark get a strange letter. It turns out they are sisters, and will inherit from their late mother, if the can stay together one month in the same house. They end up in a lot of (romantic) trouble, because of speculations of who their father(s) might be.

Composer Jørgen Rhoders lives an easy life, at least according to his son Per. Per and his stepsister, Ulla, decide to give their father a little trouble so that his compositions will improve. However, Jørgen deceives the children, and only when the children cause their parents to fall out does the situation seem to improve. Meanwhile, Ulla believes that Per is in love with Lily.

In a boarding house in the inner city lives Flora - a fresh Copenhagen girl with a burning dream: She wants to be a journalist. The book, titled "I Met a Murderer", has Eva Saabye as one of the main characters.

To get a job in a female trio, Per Fagernæs dresses up in women's clothing and calls himself Martha. Together with his "boyfriend" Poul, the four of them travel to the countryside. Martha is drawn into the women's movement by the mayor's wife, and at a women's rights meeting she is nominated as a candidate for parliament. Later, she is elected, beating the mayor of the town by one vote. Meanwhile, both Martha and Poul are having problems with love, as they have both fallen in love with two real women from the trio. But how do you declare your love when you are engaged to Martha, and how do you get rid of Martha?

Frederik Larsen (Lau Lauritzen Jr.), a sailor and has sailed since he was 15. Now he has lost the desire for a sailor life, especially after his best friend Bob was lost in a hurricane. When his ship docks at Copenhagen, shortly before Christmas, he signs off with all his hire on the pocket. He seeks accommodations in sailor home Bertel, located on the nice side of Nyhavn. Here he can stay and eat for very little money. He delivers his kitbag to the concierge Henrik (Mogens Hermansen) before he was lured by accordion music and the laughter that comes to him from the "naughty" side of Nyhavn. In the Cafe "The black sails", he accidently joins Inger (Lisbeth Movin) at the same table, whose profession is not in the phone book, although it is the world's oldest. Inger is in the company of an unemployed stoker Vladimir W. Olsen (Poul Reichhardt) that is full of scams, and has a good mood.

Composer John Berger is plagued by marital problems and struggling with a deadline for the music for an operetta. When he is visited by the muse of music, Polyhymnia, the melodies begin to flow, but she also causes a lot of complications in his earthly life. Like John's wife Irene, she falls in love with flight lieutenant Harry, while her father Zeus looks on disapprovingly and decides to intervene. Meanwhile, the premiere of the operetta is fast approaching.

On a dark and rainy evening after the cinema, a small two-seater car drives through the old streets of Copenhagen. It is the young doctor Preben Hansen driving his sweetheart home. She is a nanny and works at a daycare centre in the inner city. She is a sweet and lively girl whom her friends call "Peter." In the doorway, "Peter" encounters a drunk man who will later become important in her life. When the daycare center is about to close, the drunk man may step in with a financial helping hand.

On a dark and gloomy evening, the heirs of the deceased millionaire Jensen-Bosch gather at his old castle to hear his last wishes. The darkness lies close around the old castle, everything portends evil. As long as the family has existed, it has never been able to agree. When the will is read, seriousness spreads across their faces, and defiance and anger can be read in the expectant eyes.

The bank is located in the square of a small, idyllic market town, and its manager, Anders B. Schmidt, is seriously ill in the town hospital. At the beginning of the story, he is quietly passing away. In the wealthy neighborhood of the market town, we find the bank manager's villa, which has been his pride and joy for many years. The Great Nordic War was in full swing, and the Danes and Norwegians had heard with increasing wonder and excitement about a series of victorious and daring feats practiced by a young frigate commander, Captain Lieutenant Peter Wessel. However, Jens changes as he falls more and more in love with Ingrid.

Director Max Kildal's private life has gone completely topsy-turvy. The two women of the house, his wife Louise and daughter Vibeke, throw him around in the ring when they play their rich girl intrigue game. Max is completely and utterly subject to the tyranny of women. At least for Max, no one is interested. And yet. One day he realizes that he is appreciated by his secretary - and then he shows his trump card to the women at home.

At the same time, the inn is about to lose its liquor license, threatening its very existence. The innkeeper tells the girl that both he and his friend from his military days have paid child support to her, as no one knew which of them was her real father.
