It’s unusually hot on the beaches of the Landes, and 17-year-old Marouane is spending his last day at the campground with a nagging fear: will the body he buried on the beach the day before be discovered? Marouane also wonders if he might be falling in love with the charming Giulia.

Gianina, a young Romanian, works as a housekeeper for a bourgeois family in Bordeaux. In the evenings, she rehearses the role of a maid with an amateur theater troupe in an adaptation of The Diary of a Chambermaid by Octave Mirbeau. She takes care of Louen, her employers’ son, while her own daughter is growing up far from her, in Romania. The maternal absence deepens into a wound but, as Christmas approaches, the promise of a reunion begins to take shape.

During a school trip to Italy, a group of schoolgirls stay in a convent. Emma shares her room with her friends Lydia and Alice. She feels attracted to Alice, but as the two girls get closer, Emma suddenly feels like the religious statuettes are judging her.
