The Umbrella

It was raining non-stop when Hong Kong was rocked by the tumultuous events of October 2014 (the "umbrella movement"). In a fixed sequence shot, the film captured students meeting each other in the hall, in the rooms, discussing, arguing about or remaining indifferent to the event, while it continued to rain outside.

Seventeen Floor

Orphaned high school student Agnes lives with her aunt and uncle. She often bumps into Karl who lives on the 17th floor of the same building. Karl is always reading the newspaper with excessive attention, and as Agnes later learns, he is a bright student who suffers from speech and language impairment. As she pays a visit to Karl, she discovers his miserable childhood and his big secret. Karl is arrested for his actions when the secret is unveiled. It brings nothing but relief to Agnes as she is now tempted to follow Karl's footsteps to seek revenge for all the sufferings she has endured.
