A group of college students, led by Claudia, decide to investigate a local tower that has figured prominently in disturbing reoccurring dreams Claudia has been having. They are suspended from school for their antics, but Claudia learns from one of the female staff members that the person in the dream is a student who killed herself years before and that the headmistress has seen her ghost.

Julia, a governess, comes to work for a bourgeois family that lives in a forested property they have recently bought. Julia is to take care of a little girl named Silvia, whose unusual demeanor may find its roots in the family garden.

Carmela is a Gypsy singer who sells lottery tickets. The story follows Rina, a young hunchback who sells flowers to support her father and siblings after being abandoned by her mother. One day, while selling her flowers, she is beckoned from a window by Leopoldo—a wealthy, elderly, bitter, and invalid man—who manipulates her into marrying him because he refuses to leave his inheritance to his sister-in-law, Rafaela. Rina agrees to the marriage due to financial hardship. Shortly thereafter, Leopoldo dies, and Rina inherits a vast fortune. She undergoes surgery to correct her hunchback and transforms into a beautiful woman. Unwilling to accept the loss of the inheritance, Rafaela devises a scheme with the help of her son, Carlos Augusto, who has recently been widowed.
