Finally it turns out that she need his help to break her sexual relation to the count, a relation that from her part is not motivated by positive feelings. W rejects her attempts. And then Anna has suddenly gone. She has got a pleasant job in another town. And then W's feelings awaken.

We are given a unique portrait of Ingmar Bergman as a personal instructor and coach, as a human being, spanning from the earlier years in the 1950’s to his last theater productions fifty years later. We are treated to stories about Bergman the director as well as personal anecdotes about Bergman the man. Renowned Swedish film critic Nils Petter Sundgren, who has followed Ingmar Bergman throughout his career, hosts the program.

After a few jobs but struck by all the injustice and tragedy, he becomes active in the forbidden IWW (Industrial Workers of the World), a union for workers without trades. It is forbidden to demonstrate and speak in public but Joe finds a loophole by singing his manifests with the Salvation Army. As his allies grow, so do his enemies.
