Good-natured and garrulous, Schweik becomes the Austrian army's most loyal Czech soldier when he is called up on the outbreak of World War I -- although his bumbling attempts to get to the front serve only to prevent him from reaching it. Playing cards and getting drunk, he uses all his cunning and genial subterfuge to deal with the police, clergy, and officers who chivy him toward battle.

A comedy based on the novel of Jaroslav Hašek's The Good Soldier Svejk happens during the World War I. With the distinctive traditional Czech cartoon character of a soldier Svejk, this time you meet on the way to the front and eventually right in the firing line. Silvestr Blažek loses his job, but he doesn't lose heart. He also courts the saleswoman Boženka Straková. The driver of the builder Herold, Karel Verner, is also interested in the girl. Boženka is the daughter of Narcis Straka, a man with a mysterious past. However, Herold's father-in-law Jakub Suldovský recognizes him as an old friend from Vienna, where they both loved the same woman....

Despite the initial mistrust of others, former glass worker Štěoán Urban becomes the founder and first chairman of the local agricultural cooperative. However, 1968 arrives and with it comes previously unexpected problems.

The football team consists of eleven players. And the owner of the car repair shop, Kryštof Klapzuba, has exactly that many athletically gifted sons. It is no wonder that one day the former international Hájek persuades him to form a football team out of his sons. The enthusiastic sons train diligently and after a few minor hiccups, the first results in the form of won matches begin to appear. In addition to the sporting results, however, love also appears...

The bickering of envious mistresses, the criminal intentions of fraudsters and the love of two young people are at the center of events, in the middle of which unfolds the fate of the city executioner Jiří, who longs to break free from his destiny and become a proper burgher. He is not heard, but he manages to expose the iniquities and their culprits, reunites a hard-pressed couple in love and his undeniable merits for the city and eventually bring him luck.

In late 19th century Czech-speaking Bohemia, oppressed workers at German-owned mines and foundries revolt against their harsh working conditions. Made shortly after World War II as Czechoslovakia was falling to communism, the film resonates in Czech resentment of the German occupation.
