Los detectives Viruta y Capulina, viajan al Puerto de Acapulco, para cuidar de Ricardo, joven hijo de un rico. Durante el trayecto levantan a la cantante Mayté. Un tal Guillermo secuestra al muchacho usando de anzuelo a Silvia y lo suben en un bote. Viruta y Capulina los siguen en otro bote, provocando un desorden sin control entre los demás botes que se encuentran en la playa pero a pesar de sus torpesas logran rescatarlo y eliminar a los maleantes.

Manolete has to give a bullfight show in a village, but Cantinflas arrives first as a stowaway in a train, and he'll be mistake by the real bullfighter. Cantinflas will give us a demonstration of courage.

Cinco fueron escogidos taking place in Slavko, a "peaceful town in Yugoslavia," with only Yugoslavians and Germans as characters, not a Mexican or Spaniard in sight. Another interesting point about Cinco fueron escogidos is the existence of an alternate version, shot in English with a different cast (at least in major roles). Sadly, this film, usually referred to as "Five Were Chosen" but sometimes called "Hostages" (not to be confused with the somewhat similar 1943 Hollywood movie with that title), appears to be lost. García Riera indicates the English-language version was screened in Mexico, at least for the press, but does not seem to have been released commercially in the Mexico or the USA. Since Herbert Kline was well-known for his leftist views, it's not surprising to note that many of the imported Hollywood actors were also left-leaning (and in fact more than one was blacklisted during the Red Scare era).

Viruta and Capulina are about to be evicted from the neighborhood where they live for not paying rent for eleven months. After several troubles with the police and the building owner, it is clarified that Capulina had saved the money to pay for the operation of a child that lives in the building. After all, the doctor operates the child for free, the neighbors celebrate with a big party and the building owner forgives them all the income.
