A Russian engineer Petr Garin possesses a unique beam-shooting weapon that can destroy any target. His goal is to achieve world domination with the help of this weapon. Vasily Shelga is out to stop him and also to prevent others getting possession of this weapon.

This television opera is based on Boris Asafiev's work "The Treasurer's Wife," which, in turn, is an opera adaptation of M.Y. Lermontov's poem "The Tambov Treasurer's Wife." The action takes place in the early 19th century in the provincial town of Tambov. The quiet, measured life of the town is disrupted by the arrival of a cavalry regiment. The old treasurer throws a ball, where he loses his entire fortune and his beautiful wife to the young cavalryman Garin in a card game.

SHE was strange and inappropriate in his tiny calm town. Town with slough-like life and citizens who spent all their time gossiping. The famous scientist, academician and art critic Andrei Ilyin, who survived with the Hermitage staff the harsh trials of the Leningrad blockade, returned to his hometown after many years. The whole life of Ilyin is connected with Leningrad. A life that in the distant years of World War II would have seemed to have no future, but which, despite the unbearable horror of hunger and devastation, continued only in the name of the future ...

The action of the movie takes place in a certain fairy-tale town. The main character - the scientist Christian-Theodore discovers a lot about the inhabitants of the city, about their oddities and peculiarities. The princess of the city has struck the imagination of Christian-Theodore, but he does not notice that he is not indifferent to the kind girl Annunziata. The scientist becomes a victim of palace intrigues and intrigues. His own shadow, which appeared to the hero, pushes him to a cowardly act - the rejection of the princess. The shadow wins the heart of the princess and wants to destroy Christian-Theodore. But, as it is supposed to be in a real fairy tale, everything ends happily. The hero is helped by Annunziata's love and the sympathy of the town's inhabitants for the scientist who wants to make everyone happy.
