Eka Chkheidze

This Georgian drama seeks to renew and reinforce a sense of cultural and national identity as it examines a tragic event in the idyllic life of an aristocratic Georgian family. Much of the film focuses upon their happy and peaceful life of this family comprised of a young couple and their baby daughter Keto. Their life changes when two drifters come in. The two men (who seem to be Muslims from the Azerbaijan republic) are met with hospitality. They repay it by kidnapping baby Keto. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

The friends decide to marry the young veterinarian, Bachuta, and make a list of possible brides, but Bachuta is already in love with Taliko, who works with him on the farm.

At the end of the 17th century, Georgia, weakened by war with foreign enemies and internal feudal disorder, came under the influence of Iran. Georgian kings had to fight under the Iranian flag. A similar fate befell King George XI. He was forced to spend most of his life in Afghanistan and Baluchistan to quell the revolts against Iran.

The tragic events in Georgian history, spanning from the 16th to the 18th centuries, culminated in the signing of the Treaty of Georgievsk in 1783, which placed Georgia under Russian protection.
