Joey Frank

A failed filmmaker turned single dad tries to make a living while retaining his sense of self, in James N. Kienitz Wilkins’ experimental 3D-rendered home renovation comedy, which doubles as an acidic treatise on working conditions for the contemporary creative.

As the camera orbits him, Joey Frank struggles to convey an idea about astrology to a rotating group of guests. In 2006, in a manic episode in a matinee of Little Miss Sunshine, Joey Frank had an epiphany that he attempts to recreate by watching the film again. 14 hours of stopping and starting gets boiled and trimmed down to 101 minutes, so that Little Miss Sun Sign is the same length and size as the film from whence it came.

LaJoye Watkins, a reclusive Black woman living in Brooklyn, is determined to tell a secret she has harbored all her life: electronic music was actually started by Black Southerners in the 1920s.
