Daddy

Based on A. Galych's play "Matrosskaya Tishina", "Papa" tells a story of a Jewish father who dreamed of seeing his son perform on a stage in front of huge audiences, he dreamed of seeing him as the greatest violinist of his time. To achieve the goal he taught his son Dodik how to play the violin from the yearly age. When Dodik grew up he left the small town he and his father lived in to study in the Moscow Conservatory leaving his past behind. But one day he has to choose either to loose his father or everything he has achieved.

Kirill Makarov has just graduated from university with a degree in architecture. With his whole life ahead of him and his beautiful fiancée Victoria, daughter of a rich and influential man, by his side, his future seems full of promise. However, Kirill does not want to use his future father-in-law's influence to get a job, and as he sticks to his principles, he begins to understand that his approach to life is very different to his fiancee's. He breaks off their engagement and on that same day meets Lena, a trainee teacher. Cut to ten years later, and Kirill is married to Lena with two children.

The protagonists challenge the inhumane state machine, putting on stake their very lives and proving that nothing and nobody can stop a person who is on his way to achieve a true freedom.

Slava, a successful businessman discovers his beloved wife, Olga is having an affair with Paul, a penniless young writer. Consumed with jealousy and bitterness but, in an attempt to save his marriage, Slava offers Paul $300,000 to kill Olga. He records the conversation on a dictaphone, believing that Olga, on hearing the recording, will immediately break up with Paul when she discovers his willingness to kill her for money. On the eve of the ‘murder’, Slava plays the tape for Olga to hear. However, instead of shock, Olga’s face displays stout resolution – she had been aware of her husband’s plan all along, and this becomes the perfect opportunity for her to use the recording for her own purposes. However, Olga is not the only one whose life will be affected by the incriminating recording…
