Set in the Dinh Dynasty of the 10th century, the period film follows seven loyal warriors who must race against time to transport 99 coffins to different parts of the kingdom as a decoy to the enemy and keep the final resting place of the first emperor a secret.

A general who devoted his life to the communist cause, retires, only to find that his household is in disarray, his grown children money-grubbing, and Vietnamese society far from the rosy picture of equality he'd imagined he'd helped make it.

The story is a miniature society with views on love and life values. Let the characters exclaim that "When it comes to love, any age is foolish." Hidden deep in the love story and family values is the ideological struggle and the lessons of the times.

Don Duong stars as a truck driver who falls in love with a young student girl in a roadside border canteen. Unsure about him, she returns to school but finally decides to throw in her lot with him. This decision forms the gambling motif in the film, a decision which causes her grief, when she later becomes the subject of his gamble.
