The Death of Klinghoffer

An opera in a prologue and two acts by John Adams, with a libretto by Alice Goodman, inspired by the 1985 hijacking of the cruise ship Achille Lauro. Conducted by Lawrence Renes, directed and designed by Luca Guadagnino. A new production by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Pappano e la Messa di Gloria di Puccini

Antonio Pappano conducts the Orchestra and Choir of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, accompanied by tenor Luciano Ganci and baritone Mattia Olivieri. The programme includes Giacomo Puccini’s *Messa di Gloria*, Amilcare Ponchielli’s *Elegia* and Victor de Sabata’s *Juventus*.

To mark the tenth anniversary of the L'Aquila earthquake, Nicola Piovani will conduct *The Symphony of the Seasons* for soloists, children’s choir, narrator and orchestra from the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio.

The story of Guglielmo, a successful doctor and confirmed Don Juan who, in order to help his friend Vincenzo, who is a bit clumsy with the fairer sex, lets him use his house for a romantic rendezvous with a woman he met in a chat room, lying to his wife Raffaella and forcing her to leave the apartment.

Blind and wandering, Oedipus arrives in Colonus, near Athens, supported by Antigone and then also by Ismene. Everyone avoided him, but now everyone seeks him, because the city that will have his tomb will be invincible, according to the oracles. Oedipus drives everyone away and, accompanied by the Athenian king Theseus, sets off towards death. Directed by Robert Carsen.

An evening event at Rome's Auditorium Parco della Musica to celebrate the 162nd anniversary of the founding of the Italian Army. The concert will feature the Italian Army Band conducted by Maestro Magg. Filippo Cangiamila.

Il sangue e la parola (Blood and Words) “Not the sword but words illuminate the way” is a cantata by maestro Nicola Piovani with lyrics freely adapted from Aeschylus' The Eumenides. Performed by the orchestra and choir of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma with Andrea Pennacchi as narrator. The concert also includes performances of symphonic suites from La notte di San Lorenzo (The Night of San Lorenzo) and La vita è bella (Life is Beautiful).
